U.S. Embassy Lima's Green Team Earth Day Challenge

March 9 - April 20, every Monday

Lima, Perú

U.S. Embassy Lima's Green Team is a voluntary cross-mission group that fosters and facilitates action to reduce diplomacy’s environmental footprint and showcase American innovation in support of the Department’s Greening Diplomacy Initiative and the work of the Department’s Greening Council. From March 9 through April 20, employees from U.S. Embassy Lima and their families will collect all types of bottle caps (bottle caps from soda, mineral water, yogurt, milk, shampoo, toothpaste, and laundry detergent containers) in an effort to reduce the amount of plastic in the oceans. Every Monday, each team will have their bottle caps weighed, and whoever has the most bottle caps will be named the Eco-Warrior of the week. The goal is to collect 450 kilos of bottle caps, which, in coordination with the nonprofit Tierra y Ser, will be enough to purchase a wheelchair for someone in need. On Earth Day, April 22, the Green Team will present a wheelchair to someone on Tierra y Ser’s waiting list and will host a small party to congratulate all participants in the collection effort.
