Jean Pierre Santos is a Brazilian biologist working for the nongovernmental organization, Pró-Carnívoros, that promotes the conservation of Neotropical carnivorous mammals and their habitat. Jean Pierre has a particular interest in conflicts between carnivores, including the maned wolf, and humans. He dedicates the majority of his time to education and communication strategies to raise public awareness toward wildlife in the Serra da Canastra region. He has used tools such as books, traveling environmental cinema produced for local towns and farms, and training courses to enhance community participation in conservation activities. By promoting the cultural importance of the maned wolf, community interest in the species grew, as did interest in finding solutions for existing human-animal conflicts.
