Provost, Earth University, Costa Rica
Daniel Sherrard, a U.S. citizen, received his Master’s in International Agricultural Development from Cal Poly State University, and his Doctorate in Agricultural Education from Iowa State University.
In 2005, he was appointed EARTH University’s Provost. He is the University’s chief academic officer, leads the institution’s strategic planning process, and is responsible for the University’s operations.
From 2000-2005, Dr. Sherrard was EARTH’s Academic Dean, prior to this, he held numerous academic positions in the institution.
He is currently actively engaged with colleagues from African universities in efforts to incorporate entrepreneurial and experiential education in their curricula.
As president of Costa Rica’s second “debt for nature swap” supervisory committee, Dr. Sherrard is actively involved in efforts to conserve the countries extensive system of protected areas.
He has been an active member of the Global Confederation of Higher Education Associations for Agricultural and Life Sciences (GCHERA) for many years.
He is the author of publications related to agricultural higher education such as, “The Change Agenda: A New Approach to Higher Education in Agriculture”, “The University-Community Alliance for Sustainability”, and “The Need for a New Focus in Agricultural Higher Education in Latin America”, among others.
