Krithika Layagala

Krithika Layagala is a high school junior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Sci & Tech. Sheis the president of her school's Environmental Impact club. She leads initiatives to reduce waste at her. One initiative she led this year is starting a composting system at her school to reduce food waste. Krithika is also an ambassador for the Eco Teen Action Network’s Plastics hub whose current project is to start a Reusable To-Go Box Pilot at National Landing (Amazon’s 2nd headquarters) to reduce the amount of waste produced by restaurant take-out containers. By organizing meetings with relevant parties such as Amazon, giving presentations, and engaging a group of teens on the issue, she is sure that the Reusable To-Go box pilot will be a reality in the next few months. By working on these initiatives with like-minded teens, and learning about all the other people working on ensuring a sustainable future, she is optimistic that we will be able to live healthy lives on a healthy planet.
