Majid Ali Al Masoud
Managing Director, International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC)
As Managing Director since 2015, His Excellency Majid Ali Al Mansouri heads IFHC’s mission to preserve and restore sustainable wild populations of the Houbara bustard through active intervention and conservation leadership. It is a role that epitomises his life-long commitment to and passion for improving the natural environment.
His Excellency has spearheaded IFHC’s evolution to become the global leader in pre-emptive species conservation, building on four decades of progress. His dedication to conservation has ensured future generations can enjoy Houbara in the wild across the species’ migratory range, from Mongolia in the East to the Levant in the West.
Al Mansouri’s desire to take IFHC’s message global has resulted in international collaboration with countries across the Houbara range, in addition to India and Spain, while the Fund has now released captive-bred Houbara in 14 countries.
His Excellency is also Managing Director of the Mohamed Bin Zayed Raptor Conservation Fund (MBZRCF), a non-profit fund established by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to develop solutions to key global challenges facing raptors. His global conservation efforts were recognized in October 2018 when Al Mansouri was elected President of the International Association for Falconry and Conservation of Birds of Prey (IAF), a non-profit organization established in 1968 to preserve the art of falconry and its associated traditional culture of wild birds of prey through conservation of natural habitats.
Al Mansouri’s dedication to environmental protection and sustainability stretches back more than two decades including roles such as Secretary General, Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD). He had a major contribution in the promulgation of a UAE federal law dealing with trade in endangered species. As Secretary of the National Committee and the Chair of the Technical Committee on bird flu, he contributed to the development of a national plan to mitigate potential risks of this disease.
