Remote Sensing Scientist and Associate Researcher at Imazon

Carlos Souza Jr. got a bachelor's degree in Geology in Brazil from the ParĂ¡ State Federal University, an M.Sc. in Soil Science from Penn State University, and a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of California in Santa Barbara. Carlos Souza Jr. is an associate researcher at Imazon. His work focuses on tropical forest monitoring, land use and land cover change, climate change impacts on land cover, and spatial modeling. In 2010, Carlos Souza Jr. received the Skoll Award on Social Entrepreneurship in recognition of his work to develop and operationalize the first independent forest monitoring system in Brazil. He also co-founded Terras startup, which develops geospatial Apps for social-environmental risk analysis, monitoring, and traceability of rural properties. In 2017, he received the Conservation Fellowship from the Mulago Foundation for the work with Terras.
